Iran’s export to Russia goes beyond $2bl in 2023: Amb

According to statistics, Iran’s export to Russia which exceeded $2 billion in 2023 shows a significant increase compared with the preceding years.

The statistics have been reported verbally by officials at Russia’s Customs Service, Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali told IRNA according to a report on Monday.

In his remarks, the ambassador said the existing difference between the statistics reported by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) and Russia’s Customs Service has a technical reason.

The Russians have not released their official statistics of 2023; but according to the Russian officials, Iran’s exports to the Eastern European country have had considerable growth, Jalali announced.

He went on to say that the export of Iranian products to Russia could be more than the declared number because part of the Iranian goods is exported to Russia through other members of the Eurasian Economic Union, such as Kazakhstan.

Elaborating on the reason behind the decrease in imports from Russia, the ambassador said that Iran had a good year of wheat production in 2023 so it bought less wheat from Russia than the previous years.

Jalali attended the interview with IRNA on the eve of the Iranian-Russian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation slated for February 26-27.
