Iran can boost tourism while adhering to principles: Raisi

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has said that no change to principles is needed in order to boost tourism in a country that possesses many tourist attractions and is already attracting a large number of foreigners.

“Some people make excuses and say that a series of principles need to be reviewed in order to boost tourism. This is a wrong comment”, the president said on Monday, adding that the “Islamic Iran” has enough attractions, including an ancient civilization, to attract tourists while it is adhering to its Islamic and cultural principles.

“Today, there are a large number of people across the world, who are interested in visiting our country to see its beautiful nature as well as the ancient sites. However, enemies, through their Iranophobia [campaign], are trying to discourage them from coming to the country,” Raisi added.

He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 17th edition of Iran International Tourism and Related Industries Exhibition which is taking place on Feb. 12-15 at the Tehran International Permanent Fairground.

The president noted that tourism is a key sector that helps boost non-oil economy.

Raisi said that his administration has already taken steps to boost tourism as it has dropped visa requirements for citizens of 33 countries seeking to visit Iran.
