NOURNEWS- "Keele Exeter" and "Staffordshire" of the University of London announced this December that the high rate of use of Taser weapons against non-whites in England, compared to the use against whites, indicates structural racism in the police force of this country.
The racist approach of the British police has repeatedly caused demonstrations and street protests by the people of this country; in September of this year, hundreds of protesters protested the murder of "Chris Kaba", an unarmed black man who was killed by a British police officer last year, in the streets of this country's capital. While carrying the "Justice for Kaba" placard, they called the police of this country a racist, violent, and ruthless organization whose hands are stained with the blood of innocent people.
Black people in England are seven times more likely to die at the hands of the police than white people. After examining the cases between 2011 and 2021, it was found that about 52 black people died during or after being arrested and contacted by the police; Of all recorded deaths at the hands of the police, black victims were 13 percent, so they are four times more likely to die than the proportion of the population they represent. Also, the data shows that the British police reject black applicants for employment in this institution at a higher rate compared to white applicants.
Reports show that the cases related to the disappearance of black and Asian people are not investigated seriously by the British police. According to the report of the Missing People Institute, black and Asian children are the main victims of this racist approach by the British police. The said report shows that 20% of the incidents related to the disappearance of black children lasted more than 48 hours; While this amount is 14 hours for Asian children and 13 hours for white children. Also, missing black children are 7% less likely to be found by the police than missing white children.
Two years ago, in a cross-party report, the British Parliament's internal affairs committee described racial inequality among the country's police forces as unjustifiable and "institutionalized racism" as the cause.
In a report in 2016, "Evening Standard" newspaper revealed new aspects of the rule of racist behavior in the London police. In one year, 59 police officers have been fired or punished for racist behavior. This English newspaper added; that 18 of these agents have been fired, and 41 others have been punished due to the complaints filed against them. Between 1999 and 2011, 120 police officers were accused of racist behavior, of which 6 were forced to resign, one was fired, and the rest received administrative punishment, which is much less than the police's racist violations.
Sexual corruption in the British police
In addition to racism, the cases of sexual and moral corruption and the crimes of the British police against women are also worthy of consideration. Last year, a British police officer's confession that he had committed more than 71 dangerous sexual crimes over 18 years shocked the country. David Carrick, a 48-year-old English police officer, pleaded guilty to 49 charges, including raping 12 women.
Reports show that while 1,100 police officers in England and Wales have been accused of sexual abuse this year, 180 of them continue to work normally despite their horrific crimes. Of the other 1,151 officers under investigation, 428 remain on limited duty and 378 have been suspended. The Metropolitan Police, a specialist operational branch, has the largest number of officers under investigation, with 657 police officers from this branch accused of sexual harassment by abusing their position.
After Metropolitan Police officer David Carrick pleaded guilty to 49 of the dozens of rapes and sexual offenses, the police department said it was investigating 1,000 cases of abuse and sexual assault involving 800 police officers. Statistics were published last year, according to which, in four years, about 2,000 accusations of sexual misconduct, including rape, were made against British police officers.
A small part of this catastrophic situation in the British police was made public in 2021; When "Wayne Couzens", an English police officer, raped and killed Sarah Everard after kidnapping her.
The unethical body search of a black teenage girl in 2020 and the murder of a black singer in 2022 were among the cases that brought the issue of racism and sexual crimes in the British police into the spotlight; To the extent that the "Metropolitan" police was subjected to a special investigation and an independent investigation was conducted. The 363-page report confirmed that the Metropolitan Police is the largest racist police force in England with more than 34,000 officers.
