NOURNEWS- Iranian and Armenian officials signed a document to monitor and apply measures to reduce the pollution of the Aras River.
The document was inked at the end of the meeting of the joint technical committee with the aim of implementing measures to halt the pollution entering the Aras River.
The aforementioned document was signed by Iraj Heshmati, the deputy head of Iran's Department of Environment, and Gayane Gabrielyan, deputy minister of environment of Armenia, in the presence of Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Sobhani and Armenian Environment Minister Hakob Simidian.
Led by the Deputy Director of the Environmental Organization of Iran, the Iranian delegation, reached an agreement with their Armenian counterparts in Yerevan to apply measures to control the amount of pollution in the Aras river.
Aras is the name of a river that originates from the Bingöl mountains at the zero point of the provincial border of Erzurum and Muş.
The river is 1072 km long and its water has been polluted in recent years due to the influx of sewage from the side of Armenia.
