NOURNEWS- The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman has reacted to a decision by the Council of the European Union not to fulfill its obligations under the JCPOA on the eighth year of its implementation on 18 October 2023.
Nasser Kanaani, the spokesman of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated, “The action of the Council of the European Union is a clear violation of the obligations of the Council and the three European countries under the JCPOA and Resolution 2231, and is therefore an act of bad faith.”
Condemning the EU Council's decision, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered it a unilateral, illegal, and politically unjustifiable act.
Kanaani emphasized, “Such a move contradicts the claims and approach of the Union and the three European countries regarding the commitment to the full implementation of the JCPOA”.
Earlier, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs had sent two letters to Josep Borrell as the coordinator of the JCPOA Joint Commission. The letters explained the illegality of the intention of the three European countries and subsequently the decision of the European Union not to fulfill its obligations under the nuclear deal in the eighth year of its implementation, informing the other signatories to the JCPOA of Tehran’s positions in this regard.
