NOURNEWS- Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has reacted to the cancellation of the soccer match between Iran's Sepahan and Saudi Arabia's Al-Ittihad.
The top Iranian diplomat cited that he was in contact with his Saudi counterpart at the time that the match was canceled.
Saying that the relations between Tehran and Riyadh are moving forward in the right direction, Amir-Abdollahian stressed that sports should not be used as a political leverage by any side.
Iran and Saudi Arabia have agreed upon repeating the game in a proper time, he added.
He further called on the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to act on a technical basis.
The Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad on Monday refused to play Sepahan, and the match was called off.
