NOURNEWS- The conflict between Warsaw and Kyiv over grain exports has reached its climax and has also affected the strategic policies of the Polish government regarding the war in Ukraine.
With the rise of a diplomatic dispute over grain, Poland, one of Ukraine's closest allies, has announced that it will no longer send weapons to this country, and the Polish Prime Minister said; Instead, Poland will focus on arming itself with modern weapons.
This unexpected literature and approach from one of the members of NATO and the European Union is the revealing point of the differences that have started for months between the members of the North Atlantic Treaty over the way of dealing with the war in Ukraine and the Zelensky’s government, and this difference and conflict of interest is getting deeper and wider with every moment.
The root of this conflict is the issue of grains and export of grains, a conflict that started after the outbreak of a full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine, which practically closed all the main Black Sea shipping lines, so that Ukraine was forced to find alternative land routes and inevitably, a lot of grain went to Central Europe.
The EU then temporarily banned grain imports to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia to protect local farmers who feared Ukrainian grain would drive down local prices and affect their markets.
The ban ended on September 15 and the European Union decided not to extend it, but Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland decided to continue implementing it.
Although the European Commission has repeatedly stated that the members do not individually determine the trade policy of this bloc, but these countries have made their decision in the face of the policies imposed by the European Union, and apparently their decision cannot be changed easily!
Early last week, Ukraine submitted a complaint against Poland to the World Trade Organization due to the ban on grain imports, and Yulia Svyrydenko, the Minister of Economy of Ukraine, said: “It is very important for us to prove that member states cannot ban the import of Ukrainian goods.”
However, the complaint filed by Ukraine has not mounted anything and the Polish government has emphasized that it will maintain the aforementioned ban and that the complaining Warsaw’s decisions in international organizations will not impact this country’s approach towards Ukraine and the imposed ban on Ukraine’s grain.
Ukraine's fear is that such behavior on the part of other NATO members (especially in the case of grain exports) will become a widespread practice, because given the initial association of Hungary, Bulgaria, Estonia, and Romania with Poland, such a notion is not far-fetched, and it is likely to happen.
The point is; Poland has so far supported Ukraine a lot in the war. This country has asked Germany to give Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine and has promised to send fighter planes, and has welcomed more than 1.5 million Ukrainian refugees.
However, the recent tension between Kyiv and Warsaw is not only limited and temporary, but will probably be extended to other EU members, and more precisely; the rising tension over Ukraine’s grain will affect this country’s war against Russia.
The result of the erosion of the war in Ukraine and its consequences, although it was predictable from the beginning, but the senior American and European officials have so far resisted understanding these facts and closed their eyes to the facts!
The result and consequences of Ukraine war becoming war of attrition was predictable from the beginning, but the senior American and European officials have so far resisted understanding these facts and closed their eyes to the facts!
