NOURNEWS- The meeting of foreign ministers of the member states of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations was held today, 22 September 2023 in New York on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Dr. Reza Najafi, the International Legal Deputy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, participated and gave a speech in this meeting.
He pointed to the necessity of maintaining the solidarity and unity of the group in various international issues and considered the existence of this group to be effective in restoring and maintaining the prestige of the United Nations and its professional and impartial performance in various international issues.
While emphasizing on the respect and implementation of the principles of the group, which is also in line with the principles of the United Nations Charter, Dr. Najafi emphasized on the readiness of Iran for promoting bilateral and multilateral cooperation with the countries of the aforementioned friendship group.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran welcomed and supported the holding of the second meeting of national coordinators of the group members in 2024 in Caracas.
It is noted that the first meeting of the national coordinators of the members of the group was held in 2022 in Tehran.
In today's meeting, four declarations related to unilateral sanctions, food security, the necessity of ending old and new colonialism and the political declaration of foreign ministers were approved.
In these declarations, while condemning the imposition of unilateral sanctions against Iran, sympathy has been expressed with the Iranian government and people.
It is noted that this group consists of twenty countries from different geographical regions of the world.
