NATO has shot down a vital agreement regarding world’s food security

Undoubtedly, rather than relying on Turkey's mediation and Russia's re-acceptance of this mediation, the real revival of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, will lead to the resolution of some disputes related to the Ukraine war and beyond that, will lead to the necessary arrangement for start of peace negotiations between the two involved parties.

NOURNEWS- These days, due to the special importance of food security in the current world conditions, the issue of reviving the grain agreement for transferring grain from Ukraine (through the Black Sea) has become one of the main current concerns in the midst of the Ukraine war.

While saying that the suspension of grain deal and the non-renewal of the indirect agreement between Kyiv and Moscow in this regard is threatening world’s food security, member states of NATO and EU deliberately do not mention the reasons for Russia's opposition to the revival of the said crucial agreement and blame Russia for this agreement's failure!

The fact of the matter is; The intensification of US, British, German and French interventions in the Ukraine war and their undeclared support for the expansion of the war into Russian territory played a significant role in ending the grain agreement for transferring grain from the Black Sea.

According to some analysts; no other possible solution for the export of Ukrainian grain will not be very effective, except for the grain agreement regarding the transfer of grain through the Black Sea,

On the other hand; Although there have been recent consultations between Turkish and Ukrainian officials regarding the revival of the Black Sea Corridor, Ankara can no longer act as an effective mediator in these circumstances due to the escalation of its confrontation against Russia.

Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, said in a joint press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kulba, in Kyiv: "The resumption of the grain agreement is one of Ankara's priorities, and Moscow must be a part of any effective equation."

While expressing hope for the success of ongoing efforts for reviving the grain agreement, turkey’s FM said; Other alternatives will not be very effective.

Although it is possible to consider alternative channels for transporting Ukrainian grain through land and non-sea corridors, but such routes will definitely not be cost-effective.

Black Sea Grain Initiative, which was signed between Kyiv and Moscow last year with the mediation of Turkey and the UN, allowed the safe export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea, but due to several reasons, including the failure of the grain shipments to reach the intended countries and the grain being stored by the European parties involved in the war, Moscow decided to not upkeep its promises regarding the said agreement.

During the past weeks, Ankara has been trying to convince Moscow to re-implement the grain agreement, but the Russian authorities have included conditions such as; Balancing the distribution of grains and transferring them to more vulnerable countries (instead of rich European countries).

It is definitely not possible to ignore the metatextual factors involved in the war in Ukraine for determining the final result of the grain transfer process from the Black Sea, but, undoubtedly, rather than relying on Turkey's mediation and Russia's re-acceptance of this mediation, the real revival of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, will lead to the resolution of some disputes related to the Ukraine war and beyond that, will lead to the necessary arrangement for start of peace negotiations between the two involved parties.

Otherwise, any temporary solutions and agreements concluded regarding the transfer of grain from the Black Sea cannot guarantee global food security in the long term in terms of vulnerable countries access to the needed grain.

Although unofficial whispers and reports are being heard from Russian and Ukrainian sources regarding the intensifying of the parties' desire for peace, the current conditions on the battlefield do not confirm these unofficial propositions.

What is certain is that; Contrary to the claims and remarks made by Ukrainians and Western countries, Moscow is not to blame for breaking the Black Sea Grain Initiative for transferring grain trough Black Sea. More than anything, the destructive role of America, Britain, Germany and of course the Ukrainian government is more tangible and plausible than anything else, regarding the failure of the grain agreement.
