NOURNEWS- Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian underlined that all sides must respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Syria’s government, nation and army have emerged victorious in a world terrorist war and the Arab country is in its best condition now, the Iranian top diplomat said in a Thursday meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus.
“The region and the world have appreciated the reality and the power of Syria today, though the enemies of the country are making attempts to pursue their political goals by resorting to sanctions and political pressure on the Syrian government and nation,” he said.
Amirabdollahian added that Iran stood by Syria in difficult days and will continue to support the Arab country in the new conditions.
He also conveyed Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s greetings to Assad and his invitation to the Syrian president for a visit to Tehran.
He further referred to his talks with the Syrian prime minister and foreign minister on Wednesday and said they discussed efforts to expedite the implementation of the agreements signed between the two countries during Raisi’s trip to Damascus in May.
He also hailed Syria’s return to the Arab League and the enhancement of Damascus’ ties with the Arab world.
Assad, for his part, congratulated Iran on joining the BRICS group of emerging economies and said it shows the world is changing and that what Iran and Syria have stood for was right.
Noting that the United States’ strategy in the region is fanning tensions and crises among regional countries, the Syrian president hailed Iran’s initiative to bolster ties with Arab countries of the region.
Assad and Amirabdollahian also discussed the developments in Syria, the Astana peace talks, Palestinian developments and other issues of mutual interest.
