NOURNEWS- As Iran is going to take the rotating presidency of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, the Iranian foreign minister said Tehran will make every effort to promote cooperation among the forum members and accomplish its goals.
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian held a meeting with Secretary General of Asian Cooperation Dialogue Pornchai Danvivathana in Tehran on Monday.
The top Iranian diplomat thanked Danvivathana for his efforts and reassured him that Iran will do its best to promote cooperation and achieve the goals of the organization during its upcoming presidency of the ACD.
Amir-Abdollahian also stressed the importance of the role of the body’s secretariat in promoting cooperation, and declared Tehran’s readiness to help strengthen the secretariat based in Kuwait as well as the Cultural Cooperation Center of the ACD based in Tehran, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
Danvivathana, for his part, gave a report on the activities of the ACD and briefed the Iranian minister on the arrangements for the meeting of the foreign ministers of the organization on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, after which the one-year presidency of Iran over the ACD will start.
The Thai diplomat also expressed hope that during Iran’s presidency, effective measures would be taken, including the implementation of the 10-year prospect document of the ACD.
Founded in 2002 in Cha-Am, Thailand, the Asia Cooperation Dialogue is a continent-wide forum and the first of its kind in Asia. It has now 35 members.
