Russia has set a condition for recognizing the Taliban

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov set a condition for the Taliban's recognition, saying it depends on their actions and the group's compliance with their promises.

NOURNEWS - "There are realities in the field (Taliban control over Afghanistan) that everyone accepts," Lavrov told the media in an interview and continued: "But the rest of the issues regarding the recognition of the Taliban depend on the extent to which the group's behavior conforms to its statements and promises."

Speaking to reporters on the question of the possibility of accepting Afghan refugees, the Russian Foreign Minister said: "Russia is paying attention to its obligations in the field of international human rights in the issue of accepting refugees."

"We are only fulfilling our international obligations in this regard," Lavrov added.

Russia's ambassador to Kabul, Dmitry Zhirnov, met with representatives of the Taliban two days ago and called his talks with the group constructive.

Meanwhile, Zamir Kabulov, the Russian president's special envoy for Afghanistan, has said that Russia will not rush to recognize the Taliban.

Following the February 2020 agreement between the United States and the Taliban and the signing of a "peace agreement" between the two sides, the process of withdrawing US troops and allies from Afghanistan began.

In recent weeks, the Taliban have been able to advance in Afghanistan and capture key cities in the country, and were able to enter Kabul on August 15 after the fall of Ashraf Ghani's government.
