Contradictory News about the Death of the Taliban Leader

Following the report of Foreign Policy on the Taliban leader's infection with the coronavirus, the American publication reported that Akhundzadeh had died of COVID-19 disease.

NOURNEWS - The American newspaper Foreign Policy quoted several senior Taliban officials as saying that the group's leader, Hebatullah Akhundzadeh, had died of coronavirus.

News of the Taliban leader's infection with the coronavirus was reported by Foreign Policy on Monday, citing several senior members of the group, including "Mawlawi Mohammad Ali Jan Ahmad," a former senior Afghan military commander.

Ahmad had previously said that Akhundzadeh had been ill, but was being treated. But according to three other senior Taliban commanders based in Quetta, Pakistan, the Taliban leader has died of the disease. So far, the confirmed news about Akhundzadeh's illness has not been published.

A Taliban spokesman denied the Foreign Policy report that the group's leader, Hebatullah Akhundzadeh, had been infected with coronavirus.

Mujahid stated: "The Taliban leader does not face any problems, illnesses or disputes, and Western media propaganda has been published based on incorrect information."

Foreign Policy added: "A senior Afghan government official also said that many Taliban negotiators in Doha, Qatar, had contracted with the coronavirus, which would have a major impact on the Afghan-started talks, which are set to begin in a few weeks."

American newspaper Foreign Policy reported that senior Taliban leaders had contracted with coronavirus, and now Mullah Omar's son, the Taliban's founder and current leader, is currently leading the group.

Also, some senior Taliban officials said that Akhundzadeh had not attended public events for the past three months, and that his message had not even been recorded on Eid al-Fitr, and that only his text had been published.

An hour ago, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid denied the news in a tweet.
