Russian Deputy Foreign Minister:

The selective approach of the United States to the Security Council's decisions on Iran is unacceptable

Emphasizing that there is no reason to extend Iran's arms embargo, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister said that the selective approach of the United States to Security Council resolutions is not acceptable to the vast majority of members of the international community.

NOURNEWS- Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said last night that the United States should wait for a very difficult path in trying to extend sanctions on Iran in the Security Council.

According to him, the restrictive regime regarding the purchase of military weapons by Iran will expire on October 18, 2020 (October 28), as provided for in UN Security Council Resolution 2231, and there is no reason to extend it.

"Of course, we know that senior US officials and the United Nations envoy to the United Nations are looking for other options, including extending the arms embargo against Iran," he said. But our position on this is quite clear: no country is allowed to resort to selective Security Council resolutions. "And the United States has been openly violating Security Council resolutions for more than two years."

"I think the vast majority of members of the international community agree with this position, and in any case, Washington officials do not have an easy way to achieve their goals," Ryabkov said.

At the same time, he agreed that there could be another serious crisis at the United Nations, given the "stubbornness of the United States."

Russia's deputy foreign minister also said that Russia would prioritize cooperation with neighboring and friendly countries during the implementation of the suspended international projects in the context of the outbreak of the widespread corona disease. He added that the principle of confrontation in this regard is also effective and, of course, cooperation with friendly and neighboring countries is a priority for Moscow.

In addition, Sergei Ryabkov described the accusations against Russia and China in connection with the dissemination of false information about the coronavirus as another clear example of "Western Russia" and "China-Western" Western countries.

According to him, this judgment was clearly related to the humanitarian aid provided by Moscow and Beijing to some countries in the West, which is seen as an attempt to strengthen geopolitical influence, as evidenced by this view.
