Yemen threatens to close Bab al-Mandab Strait

The Yemeni government has warned that the Arab country’s army could close the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait in response to US threats to form a task force for operations in the Red Sea.

NOURNEWS- The Yemeni government has warned that the Arab country’s army could close the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait in response to US threats to form a task force for operations in the Red Sea.

“Sana’a can write the phrase ‘closed until further notice’ but it does not want to,” Deputy Yemeni Foreign Minister Hussein al-Ezzi wrote in a tweet on Tuesday, hinting at the closure of the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

“Therefore, I repeat my advice to avoid any provocation, and before forming any force, pick up your international laws from under [Israeli premier Benjamin] Netanyahu’s feet,” he said.

He warned that any escalation with Yemen may cost the enemy “50 years of exhausting problems.”

“In the end, we will not leave Gaza until you stop your aggression against it,” al-Ezzi added.

The stern warning from Yemen came after US national security advisor Jake Sullivan said Washington is in talks with other countries about a maritime task force in the Red Sea.

On Monday, the Yemeni army attacked two Israeli ships in the Red Sea as they were trying to cross the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

The spokesman of the Yemeni armed forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, announced that the Israeli ships’ passage was disrupted in support of the Palestinian nation.
