Iran and India urge cooperation within regional alliances framework

Iran and India have held their eighteenth round of political consultations in Tehran, where senior diplomats from both sides called for closer cooperation within the framework of regional alliances.

NOURNEWS- Iran and India have held their eighteenth round of political consultations in Tehran, where senior diplomats from both sides called for closer cooperation within the framework of regional alliances.

During the four-hour meeting on Sunday, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Bagheri Kani welcomed India’s call for the Global South to work towards a more inclusive world order.

The Indian delegation, led by Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra, and Iranian officials led by Bagheri, exchanged views on a host of political, economic, consular, regional, and international developments.

Bagheri stressed the need for appropriate mechanisms to be put in place to ensure cooperation between Iran and India is both “strategic and sustainable.”

Kwatra, for his part, said Iran held a significant position in India’s foreign policy, and expressed his country’s political will to further develop bilateral relations with the Islamic Republic.

He also mentioned India's interest in cooperating with Iran within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS group of emerging economies.
