Different aspects of Iran's membership in BRICS

Iran's active diplomacy as an effective and decisive element in providing maximum interests of the nation and national security is far from reaching its desired peaks, but it is definitely moving in the right direction and the enemies' dissatisfaction with these developments is a clear attest to Iran’s progress towards its goals.

NOURNEWS- While emphasizing on the process of de-dollarization of global trade system and moving in the direction of multilateralism, the summit of the leaders of BRICS (Russia, China, South Africa, Brazil and India) was held in South Africa with the presence of dozens of BRICS-friendly countries, at the end of last week, and six other countries have officially become a member of this group.

The President of South Africa announced at the 15th BRICS summit: six countries, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Argentina and Ethiopia, will join the BRICS as new members on January 1, 2024.

While emphasizing Iran's great geographical, economic, political, technical and scientific capacities in order to achieve the goals of BRICS, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran attended the meeting in South Africa, and he also considered this group as having important capacities in order to achieve Iran's goals in neutralizing sanctions and playing a role in the world arena.

Ayatollah Raisi called the presence of the Islamic Republic of Iran in BRICS as taking a new step towards establishing justice, ethics and sustainable peace in the world and said: Iran firmly supports the efforts of BRICS in the direction of de-dollarization of economic relations between members and the use of national currencies.

Regarding the acceptance of Iran's membership request in BRICS, Iran’s FM, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, said: In addition to strengthening multilateralism, this development can provide the basis for the pursuit of goals and the development of other macro-strategies of the government in the implementation of dynamic diplomacy.

Regarding this matter, there are several points worthy of consideration:

First; Tehran has always emphasized on the need for changing the world order from authoritarian unilateralism of the West to a world order based on just and fair multilateralism and has used all its capacities in this direction, so Iran's membership in BRICS just one year after Iran’s permanent membership in the SCO should be evaluated as such.

Second; The point of view of the Islamic Republic regarding BRICS is based on the principles of regional and global convergence towards common goals, and the acceptance of the simultaneous membership of Iran and Saudi Arabia in BRICS is a proof of this claim.

Admiral Ali Shamkhani, the political advisor of Iran’s supreme leader, wrote on X social network (formerly known as Twitter): While establishing and expanding Geo-Economic cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia, the two countries are moving towards reducing geopolitical competition. The simultaneous acceptance of Iran and Saudi Arabia in BRICS, if planned and managed correctly, can strengthen the abovementioned process and create new capacities for the development of stability and economic growth in the region.

Third; The capacities of BRICS in areas such as having the largest and most populous countries in the world, the most diverse resources and the most powerful armies in the world, have made this bloc especially important. The member states of BRICS have 42% of the population, 30% of the territories, 26% of the GDP and 20% of the world's merchandise trade.

Fourth; Although the West has been clinging to every possible lie and obstruction for creating a narration of Iranophobia and isolation of Iran for years, the global developments and Iran's membership in the SCO and BRICS as two examples of this matter, along with the welcoming of the officials of the member countries to the meetings and bilateral agreements with the Iranian authorities, has revealed the failure of western countries' strategy for isolating Iran in the world arena.

Fifth; However, while pumping disappointment in different levels of public opinion, in a useless attempt, the opposing media tried to induce Iran's membership in BRICS by first deeming Iran's acceptance into BRICS unlikely, and then by downplaying this important event by focusing on the insignificant matters.

We can say for certain; Iran's active diplomacy as an effective and decisive element in providing maximum interests of the nation and national security is far from reaching its desired peaks, but it is definitely moving in the right direction and the enemies' dissatisfaction with these developments is a clear attest to Iran’s progress towards its goals.
