UN warning about increasing risk of famine in 18 parts of the world

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has warned that food insecurity will increase sharply in 18 sensitive areas of the world.

NOURNEWS - A joint report released by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Program called for urgent humanitarian action to save lives and prevent hunger and death in places where hunger is expected to intensify between June and November 2023.

According to this report, Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Mali, Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Yemen are at the highest level of risk of severe food insecurity and intensified famine.

In this report, it is stated that the dangers of famine are caused by the spread of the Sudan crisis and its dangerous negative effects on the neighboring countries are pointed out and, it is stated: This crisis also worsens the economic shocks and plunges low and middle income countries into an increasingly deep crisis.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations said all the "hot spots" identified in the report put communities at risk of catastrophic conditions.

According to this report, the mentioned countries are currently in extreme levels of food insecurity and are facing factors that can seriously aggravate this situation. Lebanon has also been added to the list of "hot spots" of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. From September 2022, the countries of Malawi and 4 countries in Central Africa were also added to this list.

In early May, the Global Food Crisis Network reported that about 258 million people in 58 countries were facing severe famine in 2022, in comparison to 2021, the data in 2022 has faced a 193 million uprise.
