The legislative body of the European Union, by passing a resolution entitled "The European Union's response to the protests and executions in Iran", proposed a series of demands that include increased sanctions and support for rioters to calling the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organization.
Following this action, Hossein Amirabdollahian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, contacted "Josep Borrell", the European Union's foreign policy official, describing this resolution as "ill-considered and incorrect", its issuance as emotional, sharp, unprofessional and in conflict with political rationality and He knew civility.
On the other hand; the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is an official and sovereign institution, and calling it a terrorist organization, in addition to politically having adverse consequences in bilateral relations, from the perspective of international law, it also is basically not within the jurisdiction of the Parliament or even the Council of Europe and is in clear contradiction with the provisions of Articles 2 and 39 of the United Nations Charter.
For this reason; The spokxs of the German Foreign Ministry said in response to this action of the European Parliament: "Our position is that declaring the IRGC as a terrorist organization makes sense from a political point of view, but in addition to political obstacles, this work also faces legal obstacles."
The BBC Persian website also inevitably mentioned this issue in its report and wrote; This resolution does not have an executive guarantee, because basically, decisions at this level are not made according to the wishes of the members of the European Parliament, but based on the foreign policy of the member states and their national interests.
The ineffectiveness of such measures has been proven before, if Trump's designation of IRGC as a terrorist in May 2018 not only did not lead to anything in practice, but after designing and implementing Iran's countermeasures, it also resulted in passive reactions of America.
On the other hand, considering that the said resolution has been approved at the level of the European Parliament and does not require implementation by European governments, the efforts of the opposing media in creating psychological warfare and political pressure against Iran, which is accompanied by expressing concern about the non-implementation of this resolution, show It is a purposeful and joint game of the counter-revolution and the Zionists with the European Union against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Based on this and considering the relatively long legal process of the possible approval of the resolution at the level of the European Union's foreign ministries and the lack of consensus among these countries for approval, which is necessary for its finalization, it does not seem that this interventionist and desperate action has much effect on the situation.
