NOURNEWS: Reacting to the signing of a new deal between Tehran and New Delhi, Vedant Patel, the US Principal Deputy Spokesperson, said, “The Indian government must talk about its foreign policy itself. Our sanctions against Iran still remain and continue. Those seeking trade cooperation with Iran must know that they are exposing themselves to sanctions.”
Prioritizing countering Russia and China, Americans have put the expansion of ties with India on their agenda in the past few years and gained many scores. However, they see India as an unreliable partner. According to international bodies, India’s economy is surpassing that of the West, and the use of large regional potentials can boost this trend.
America’s scenario regarding India has two parts: First, creating competition. Simply put, the fake animosity of India with Russia and China. Second, weakening New Delhi. Making attempts to deprive India of regional potentials is understandable within this framework as well.
The reality is Chabahar Port can play an undeniable role in global trade and the economy of India, and withdrawing from the benefits of activity in the region would cause irreparable damages. For this, India asked the US not to take a “narrow view” of its Shahid Beheshti Port agreement with Iran.
India’s Minister of External Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, defended the signing of the agreement with Iran and said this will benefit the region.
Earlier, Iran and India had signed a contract in 2016 to expand the strategic port of Chabahar near Iran’s joint border with Pakistan. They signed another 10-year agreement on May 13 for more expansions, equipping, and exploiting Shahid Beheshti Port of Chabahar.
This is while new emerging powers in the form of Shanghai and BRICS are considered big threats against unilateralism and the global interests of the United Nations, according to the national security strategy of the US. According to this, the US is focused on countering countries like China, Russia, India, Iran, South Africa, and Brazil, as the most influential members of these deals.
America’s support for inefficient initiatives such as the construction of railways between India and Occupied Territories and Europe, making Central Asia and the Caucasus insecure, causing disturbances in the “Belt and Road” initiative, intriguing Taiwan and creating military conflicts in East Asia, disagreement with the Iran-Pakistan Peace Pipeline, and threatening India because of the Chabahar agreement with Iran are all assessed within this framework.
The US is worried about convergence among regional and neighboring countries because this convergence, along with turning the region into a world economic power, can pave the ground for security and stable interactions with West Asia, which are in conflict with the interests of the White House. Particularly because in the new age, regional orders can have impacts on global orders as well.
