In a message marking Sacred Defense Week on Monday, Radan described Iraq’s eight-year war of aggression against Iran in the 1980s as not merely a historical event but an “operational doctrine” and a model of resistance.

“Today, as we are once again in the turmoil of confrontation with global arrogance, the Sacred Defense is for us not a historical event, but an ‘operational doctrine’ and a model of resistance,” he said.

“Any aggression and false illusion of the enemy at any level will be met with a regret-inducing and decisive response,” he said.

Radan also paid tribute to the commanders and combatants of the Sacred Defense era and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to safeguarding national security.

Backed by the United States and European powers, former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein waged war against the Islamic Republic on September 22, 1980, less than two years after the Islamic Revolution in Iran.
