Iran to US public: Don’t become cannon fodder in a war you never chose

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has called on the American people to refuse to be recruited into the war against Iran and not become “cannon fodder” in a war they never chose, and that was instead waged by Israel.

Baqaei made the remarks late on Friday in an X post accompanied by a photo of an opinion piece published by Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post, which proposed forgiving young Americans’ debts to encourage them to enlist in a potential US ground invasion of Iran.

“Americans, ask yourselves one question: Why should your sons and daughters be offered debt forgiveness in exchange for fighting and dying in a war Israel wants continued and expanded?” the spokesperson said.

He then referred to the JP article, saying, “An opinion column in The Jerusalem Post is openly floating exactly that idea: using student-loan and credit-card debt to recruit Americans for war with Iran.”

Baqaei urged American parents not to allow their children to become mercenaries in the Israel-waged war by allowing them to be recruited in exchange for having their debts forgiven.

“Your lives. Your taxes. Someone else’s war. Do not let anyone turn you into the cannon fodder — and the bill — for a war you never chose. Do not let anyone turn your children into mercenaries for their illegal ‘war of choice’.”
