US government bonds ‘on fire’: Ghalibaf mocks Bessent again

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has republished an article titled “Scott Bessent Fails to Gaslight the Market,” by Nobel laureate economist Paul Krugman, to expose the lies and outrageous anti-Iran claims of the US Treasury Secretary.

In a message on his X account Sunday night, Ghalibaf rebuked Bessent again, citing the renowned American economist, who described him as a liar and criticized his failure to manage the markets, calling the out-of-control US government bonds evidence of Bessent’s policy of lying.

Mocking the US Treasury secretary’s recent claims, including transiting 130 million barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz in two weeks, the top Iranian parliamentarian noted that the numerical “130” was actually reminiscent of “the $130 billion cost of the war with Iran.”

“Liar liar yields on fire,” Qalibaf wrote, pointing to rising yields on US Treasury bonds (based on the data from Moody’s—a major financial analytics and rating agency company), and taking another jab at the US secretary over a reported financial loss involving the trading firm Jane Street.

“For real 130s, tell your staffer to pull Moody’s showing $130+ billion in war costs, and ask another how much Jane Street burned north of $130 million shorting oil for you in just one futures roll,” he underscored.

Time and again, Ghalibaf has responded to rhetoric and claims of US President Donald Trump and his officials, including Bessent, who is in charge of the Iran sanctions program in the Trump cabinet.
