According to Iran’s Energy Ministry, Iran’s Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi held talks with Tajikistan’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma, discussing prospects for broader economic, technical, cultural and scientific cooperation between the two countries.

Aliabadi highlighted the deep historical and cultural ties between Iran and Tajikistan, saying the two sides discussed future cooperation in areas including culture, tourism, science and technology, water and electricity.

Addressing challenges facing Tajikistan’s electricity network, Aliabadi said Iran was prepared to cooperate technically with Tajikistan to help improve and develop its power sector.

The Iranian minister also emphasized Tehran’s strategy of strengthening relations with neighboring countries, describing Tajikistan as a country with deep and historic links to Iran. He noted that people in some border areas of the two countries have family ties, adding that stronger cooperation with neighbors would contribute to greater regional solidarity.

Juma, for his part, said the meeting focused on expanding economic, commercial, technical and cultural cooperation and stressed the importance of increasing trade relations between Tajikistan and Iran.

The two sides also discussed shared dams, energy and logistics, cultural and information-related issues, and human-resource development in power plants.

In the end, Juma expressed hope that the talks would yield positive results, similar to their previous meeting.
