Iran’s “Champion of Song” Passes Away

Hossein Khajeh-Amiri, known as Iraj, an Iranian vocalist renowned for his performances of traditional music, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 94.

Nournews: Khajeh-Amiri passed away following a period of illness and health problems related to old age, air pollution, and other physical difficulties, which had led to several hospitalizations over the past few months.

At the time of his death, he was receiving special care at home.

Khajeh-Amiri, born on January 1, 1933, was one of Iran’s most popular traditional music vocalists and was also known as the “Champion of Song.” He performed more than 2,000 songs throughout his career.

Iraj was not very active following the Islamic Revolution, although he recorded two songs over the past couple of years.

His son, Ehsan, is also one of Iran’s most famous pop singers and songwriters.
