In a statement released on Wednesday, the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran said specialized examinations and DNA testing have confirmed the identity of Brigadier General Majid Kazemi, whose fighter jet participated in the operation against the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on March 2.
The Army said the body of the martyred pilot will return to Iran within hours after spending months away from the country.
It added that efforts by the relevant authorities to determine the fate of the three remaining crew members of the two Su-24 aircraft are still underway, and further information will be announced as soon as additional specialized findings become available. Details of Brigadier General Kazemi's funeral and burial ceremonies will also be released later.
According to the statement, two Iranian Air Force Su-24 bombers took off from Shahid Doran Air Base in Shiraz on March 2 in response to the "savage and treacherous attacks" by the US military and the Israeli regime.
The Army said the aircraft penetrated the enemy's advanced detection systems and multiple radar positions before carrying out a bombing raid on the US-operated Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, inflicting heavy damage on the facility.
It added that the two aircraft were struck by enemy air defense systems over the Persian Gulf during their return flight, and efforts to determine the fate of the pilots have continued ever since.
The US and the Israeli regime launched a large-scale unprovoked military campaign against Iran following the assassination of then Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians on February 28.
The attacks have involved extensive aerial strikes on both military and civilian locations across Iran, causing significant casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure.
In response, the Iranian Armed Forces carried out 100 waves of retaliatory operations, targeting American and Israeli positions in the occupied territories and at regional bases with missiles and drones.
