As the US-imposed war against Iran enters a new phase, intelligence and military sources close to the Pentagon report an unprecedented rise in dissatisfaction with the continuation of the conflict across different levels of the US armed forces.

According to the published information, the discontent extends beyond rank-and-file personnel to include enlisted troops, mid-level officers, and even some senior commanders. These sources claim that a significant number of military personnel believe the war against Iran lacks any legitimate national security justification and view it as an illegal conflict allegedly initiated and prolonged by Donald Trump to serve Israel's interests.

The same intelligence and military sources also claim that refusals by US service members to carry out commanders' orders have increased to unprecedented levels. According to these reports, insubordination has risen sharply compared with previous periods and has become a growing concern for military leadership.

The reports further state that, in the latest directive issued by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to US Central Command (CENTCOM), dated Wednesday, July 15, Gen. Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM, was instructed that even the slightest expression of opposition to continuing the war at any level should trigger an immediate and decisive response from the US military's inspector general.

According to the reports, the directive calls for swift action against any opposition or refusal to carry out orders related to the continuation of the war and instructs the inspector general to respond without delay.

The same sources claim that since the beginning of July alone, 158 personnel across different branches of the US military have faced administrative, disciplinary, or punitive measures for refusing orders or openly opposing the continuation of the war.

According to The New Yorker, at least 34 of those 158 individuals have received prison sentences ranging from three to fourteen months.
