Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Jahangir said that under international law, “every aggressor and initiator of war must be prosecuted and tried and, in addition to bearing punishment, compensate for the damage inflicted on the targeted country.”

He said the Judiciary, following the 12-day war, had coordinated with the Office of the Prosecutor General, prosecutors across the country, the Judiciary’s Human Rights Headquarters, the Center for Lawyers of the Judiciary, and domestic and international legal experts to pursue legal measures aimed at safeguarding the rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to the spokesperson, damage caused during the war has been documented by provincial prosecutors, in cooperation with judicial officers and the Judiciary’s Center for Lawyers.

Indictments have already been issued for a number of the accused, he said.

Jahangir added that more than 3,000 civil claims have also been filed in connection with the conflict, while the Presidential Legal Affairs Office and the Foreign Ministry are simultaneously pursuing the cases before international bodies.

He said the Judiciary’s Human Rights Headquarters had conducted field documentation of war crimes and grave violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, classifying the offenses under the Rome Statute into three categories: war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

Addressing the Judiciary’s priorities under the second year of Iran’s Seventh National Development Plan, Jahangir said institutional priorities are revised in line with domestic and international developments.

He said that following the wars “imposed on the Iranian nation,” one of the Judiciary’s key priorities is pursuing legal and international action over the crimes committed during the war, noting that Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei also stressed the issue during a recent meeting.

Jahangir hails unity between Iran and Iraq
Commenting on funeral ceremonies held in Iran and Iraq for the “Martyr Imam,” Jahangir described the events as unprecedented and praised the unity displayed by the Iranian and Iraqi peoples.

He thanked the Iraqi government and people for facilitating funeral ceremonies in Najaf and Karbala, saying the gatherings demonstrated that despite the two countries’ political independence, their peoples remain united in defending Islam and confronting the “arrogance” front.

Responding to a question about the legal status of Reza Pahlavi and personnel affiliated with Iran International Television, Jahangir argued that the Pahlavi dynasty’s rise and fall offered historical lessons.

He said that the dynasty came to power through a British-backed coup and that Mohammad Reza Pahlavi later ascended the throne with US support after Iran’s occupation during World War II.

After the Islamic Revolution, he went on, Iran’s enemies sought to pave the way for the return of the Pahlavi heir through an “Israeli coup,” but those attempts failed because of the Iranian people’s resistance and the actions of the country’s Armed Forces.

‘300 members of hostile television networks identified’
Jahangir noted that, from the perspective of international law, individuals working for hostile TV networks face charges including support for terrorism, involvement in the killing of political officials, espionage, and cooperation with foreign intelligence services, adding that these charges are also subject to legal pursuit before international judicial bodies.

The Judiciary spokesperson said that, following the completion of the investigation, an indictment in the case had been issued and referred to the Tehran Revolution Court for adjudication.

Commenting on the case involving media personnel affiliated with Iran International television, Jahangir said, “According to a report I have received from the Tehran Prosecutor’s Office, judicial cases have also been opened against individuals linked to this network.”

“So far, around 300 members and personnel of the two hostile television networks have been identified. Following the completion of the investigation, indictments have also been issued against them, and their cases have been referred to the Tehran Islamic Revolutionary Court for adjudication.”
