Iran urges UN Human Rights Office to condemn US aggression

Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Switzerland, Ali Bahreini, has warned of the humanitarian and human rights consequences of the ongoing US aggression against Iran, calling for a clear stance from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to condemn the attacks.

In a letter addressed to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on Thursday, Bahreini emphasized the contradiction between the illegal attacks by the United States and the principles of international law, adding that these attacks have led to the martyrdom of numerous civilians and have caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure and essential facilities.

The letter highlighted specific examples of damage inflicted on civilian infrastructure by the US, including the targeting of sections of the Tehran-Mashhad railway line, a drinking water production facility in Dehloran County, wheat silos in Hoveyzeh and Dasht-e Azadegan counties, fishing vessels belonging to local fishermen in the southern region of the country, missile strikes near Baqaei Hospital in Ahvaz, and the targeting of Semnan Airport.

In another part of the letter, Bahreini expressed regret over the lack of condemnation of the recent attacks by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, stressing that, at a time when a UN member state’s territorial integrity has been violated, and civilians are suffering as a result, the lack of a clear, timely, and decisive response may create the impression of a selective approach to upholding human rights and enforcing international law.
