Iran's top security official warns of retaliation for attacks on infrastructure

Iran’s top security official says any attack on the country's infrastructure will be met with reciprocal action.

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr, issued the strongly worded warning in a post on his X account on Friday in response to recent threats from US President Donald Trump.

He reiterated the Islamic Republic's firm stance on national security, delivering a clear warning to both the United States and the Israeli regime.

"As we have previously declared, any attack on [Iran’s] infrastructure will be met with reciprocal response," he said.

He added that the criminal Israeli regime, which stands behind such mischievous acts, will not be safe from the response of Iranian forces.

The warning comes as Trump had threatened to target Iran's bridges and power plants earlier this week. The US army attacked several provinces on Wednesday and Thursday, targeting military and civilian sites, killing at least 14 Iranians. The attacks and threats came in clear violation of a Memorandum of Understanding signed last month between Tehran and Washington for ending the war.

The SNSC secretary then described Trump as "the most hated figure in the world", who once again addressed the great and grieving Iranian nation in a way that "he himself deserved".

Zolqadr also said the US president was angered by the large public turnout in Iran and Iraq during the funeral processions for martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

"He is angry at the brilliance of the historical epic of the people of Iran and Iraq in the funeral procession of the martyred leader," he asserted.

According to a report, some 43 million Iranians and devotees from across the world turned the funeral ceremonies for late Ayatollah Khamenei into the largest recession the world has ever witnessed.

The six-day grand farewell and burial rites for the revered Leader were held across five cities — Tehran, Qom, Najaf, Karbala, and Mashhad — drawing massive, passionate crowds that defied all previous records, the Fars News Agency reported.
