Farewell Ceremony Begins at Imam Khomeini Mosalla
The ceremony officially commenced with the opening of Gates 6, 8, and 11 on the eastern side of the Mosalla and Gates 9, 20, and 21 on the northern side.
The public farewell was scheduled to begin at 6:00 a.m., but thousands of people from all walks of life had already gathered around the Mosalla before the official start. Nournews correspondents at the main prayer hall and surrounding streets reported that, due to the growing crowds, Gates 6, 8, and 11 on the east side and Gates 19, 20, and 21 on the north side were opened earlier than planned to facilitate the entry of mourners.
From the early morning hours, the Mosalla and surrounding streets were filled with a mourning atmosphere. Groups of people arrived while reciting elegies, performing chest-beating rituals, playing traditional senj and damam drums, and reciting Ziyarat Ashura. Images from the venue showed large crowds steadily moving toward the place where the martyred Leader's body lay in repose.
According to the organizing committee, today's public farewell will continue until the Maghrib call to prayer. On Sunday, beginning at 6:00 a.m., funeral prayers for the martyred Leader will be held at the Tehran Mosalla, followed by a continuation of the farewell ceremony until sunset. The main funeral procession will take place in Tehran on Monday, July 6.
Today's ceremony follows Friday's official memorial attended by high-ranking delegations and representatives from dozens of countries. According to official sources, nearly 100 countries participated through official delegations, government officials, and political figures, making it one of the largest international representations at an official ceremony of the Islamic Republic.
As the ceremony began, domestic and international media provided extensive coverage. Russia's TASS news agency reported on the atmosphere in Tehran, noting crowds gathered in Enghelab Square around the clenched-fist monument while chanting slogans associated with resistance and steadfastness.
