Pezeshkian and the high-ranking Iranian delegation accompanying him were received upon arrival at Nur Khan Air Base by Pakistan's top civilian leaders in a ceremony organized by the host country.
A number of Pakistani officials, along with Iran's ambassador to Islamabad, Reza Amiri Moghadam, attended the reception. The welcoming ceremony was broadcast live by Pakistan's state television and other news networks.
Pakistan arranged an official reception at the airport to honor the Iranian president's visit.
As part of the ceremony, Pakistan Air Force fighter jets conducted a flypast over the area where Pezeshkian's aircraft landed, paying tribute to the visiting Iranian leader.
The honors also included a 21-gun salute for the Iranian president and the accompanying senior delegation.
Pakistan is a ‘true partner’ in Iranian nation’s victory
Ahead of the visit, Ambassador Amiri Moghadam praised Pakistan’s support for the Iranian nation during the two wars the United States and Israel imposed on the country over the past year.
Speaking to Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, he said Tehran considers “the government and people of Pakistan true partners in the Iranian nation’s victory.”
The ambassador also praised Pakistan’s support for the Iranian nation during the two imposed wars.
He noted that Islamabad’s political and military leadership helped prevent the war provoked by the US-Israeli coalition from escalating into a broader regional catastrophe.
Amiri Moghadam further voiced confidence that the trip would produce positive results for bilateral relations.
He said that Pezeshkian’s meetings with Pakistani leaders would focus on advancing and expanding bilateral cooperation across all sectors, including political, economic and trade ties with Islamabad.
The president’s visit to the country comes days after an interim agreement, known as the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), was signed between Tehran and Washington.
The MoU, which ends the war that began with US-Israeli air raids against Iran on February 28, also includes provisions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the eventual lifting of all sanctions, pending further negotiations.
Praising Pakistan’s “indispensable” role in facilitating the agreement, Amiri Moghadam added that Islamabad stood firmly alongside Iran throughout the aggression and demonstrated unwavering solidarity with the Iranian nation.
“The agreement was reached following Iran’s victory over the Zionist regime and its Western backers,” he added.
Before departing for Islamabad, Pezeshkian also praised Pakistan’s role in facilitating the agreement and reiterated that the implementation of the MoU could help strengthen regional stability and security.
He said that the trip is aimed at following up on the full implementation of the MoU.
His trip comes a day after the first round of high-level US-Iran talks in Burgenstock, Switzerland, yielded a 60-day roadmap towards a final deal, according to mediators Pakistan and Qatar.
It marks Pezeshkian’s second trip to Pakistan as president, following his first official visit to the country in August last year.
