Iranian, Iraqi security officials discuss issues of mutual interest

Deputy Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Bagheri Kani has held talks with Iraq’s National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji.

Held on the sidelines of the 14th International Meeting of High Representatives Responsible for Security Issues on Tuesday, the discussions focused on neutralizing cross-border threats and strengthening the strategic partnership between Tehran and Baghdad.

Bagheri Kani demanded decisive action from Baghdad to ensure Iraqi territory is not used as a launchpad for threats against Iran. He warned of a joint conspiracy involving the US and terrorists based in the Kurdistan region aimed at expanding hostilities against the Iranian people.

The Islamic Republic will not tolerate any threat to its national security; these threats must be eradicated immediately, he stated, reaffirming Iran’s readiness for active cooperation in uprooting regional insecurity.

The Iranian official also pointed to the destabilizing roles of the US and the Israeli regime, asserting that resistance groups have consistently acted as pillars of stability.

In response, Al-Araji condemned recent military aggressions against Iran and reaffirmed Iraq’s opposition to any activity threatening its neighbor’s security. He expressed Baghdad’s full readiness to collaborate with Tehran in resolving security challenges fundamentally.

The Iraqi advisor also extended condolences over the martyrdom of Ali Larijani in the recent war, noting that Iran’s ultimate victory in this conflict is now recognized globally. He concluded that the Tehran-Baghdad strategic relationship serves as a successful model for broader regional cooperation.
