Iran’s health minister and ICRC chief discuss damage from US-Israeli imposed war

Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education Mohammad-Reza Zafarghandi and President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mirjana Spoljaric Egger have discussed damage sustained by humanitarian and medical facilities during the recent US-Israeli imposed war on Iran.

Zafarghandi and Egger met on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday, with the focus of talks being the humanitarian consequences of the US-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic.

Referring to high number of civilian casualties in attacks, he said the Health Ministry officials had been present on the ground since the first hours of the aggression, in order to provide assistance to the people with the help of other relief forces, including the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), emergency services, and the fire department.

Zafarghandi also thanked the Red Cross for its stance during the US-Israeli war and the continued humanitarian cooperation with the Iranian agencies.

The head of ICRC, while mentioning her recent trip to Tehran, said he had had good discussions with Iranian officials. Egger said the Red Cross was able to send several aid shipments to Iran and was ready to respond to urgent needs.

She also praised the extensive capacities of the IRCS and the Ministry of Health, stating that these two organizations have unparalleled operational capabilities. She noted, however, that the ICRC was trying to attract financial resources and consult with international donors to support Iranian needs.
