Araghchi reiterates Iran’s historical duty as protector of security in Hormuz

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in a message has stressed Iran’s historical duty as protector of security in Hormuz.

“In fruitful engagement with my host @DrSJaishankar, discussed regional developments and clarified that Iran will always carry out its historical duty as protector of security in Hormuz,” Araghchi wrote on his X account on Friday.
“Iran is a reliable partner of all friendly nations, who can rely on the safety of commerce,” he added.

Araghchi: Strait of Hormuz is not closed, as far as we’re concerned
Abbas Araghchi has also said that as far as we are concerned, the Strait of Hormuz is not closed, especially for friendly countries and this restriction applies only to our enemies.
Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Summit in New Delhi, Araghchi said that the Strait of Hormuz is open for the transit of ships belonging to friendly countries.
Ships belonging to friendly countries and other nations are only required to coordinate their transit with Iranian armed forces to avoid any possible obstacles and to have a safe passage, he added.
In recent days, many ships have transited this strait with the help of our naval forces, and this process will continue, he stated.
The only solution is the complete end of this aggressive war, and after that, we will ensure that safe passage is guaranteed for every single ship, he noted.
There is no military solution, and I think the United States must understand this reality. They have tested us at least twice and have now concluded that there is no military solution, he stressed.
They cannot achieve their goals through military actions, but if they pursue the path of diplomacy, the situation will be different, he noted.

Araghchi: Iran only responds to language of respect
Araghchi has expressed hope for the return of rationality to the negotiation, and said Iran only responds to the language of respect.
Speaking in a press conference with Indian journalists in New Delhi on Friday, Araghchi said: “We are now in a ceasefire situation; although this situation is very unstable, we are trying to maintain it so that diplomacy is given another chance.”
In fact, there is no military solution to any issue related to Iran, he added.
We have never bowed to any pressure or threat, he stated.
“We are interested in negotiations, but only if our counterpart is serious,” he said
“Therefore, the most important issue right now is trust. We cannot trust the Americans at all,” he reiterated.
The contradictory messages we receive from the American side are different and change every day, he said.
The fact is that there are warmongers who want to drag the United States into another war, and I hope America does not make a mistake and that diplomacy ultimately prevails, he added.

In response to a question about Trump saying that Iran should not have nuclear weapons, Araghchi said: “Iran has never wanted nuclear weapons, and they confirmed this during the agreement in 2015.”
We have a peaceful nuclear program and have always been ready to ensure that this program is and will remain peaceful, he stressed.
In response to a question about relations with India, Araghchi said: “India was previously a customer of Iranian oil, and due to unilateral and illegal US sanctions, this was stopped by India.”

Clearly, we are interested in this process continuing. We operate in the oil and energy sector and are ready to sell our oil to India, he added.
In response to a question about transferring enriched uranium to Russia, Araghchi said: “We thank Russia, but the issue of enrichment is very complex for us, and we concluded that, given the great difficulty of this issue in negotiations with the Americans, it has almost reached an impasse. So, we must postpone it to later stages of the negotiations.”
Regarding Iran’s relations with its neighboring countries, Araghchi also said: “Some countries have a special relationship with Israel, and we are very sorry about that.”
We have no particular problem with the Persian Gulf countries, and they were not our target in the ongoing war, he said.
Our attacks were on military bases, military installations, and American interests in the territories of those countries, he reiterated.
In response to a question about the negotiation process and Pakistan’s mediation, he said “Pakistan’s mediation process has not failed yet, but it is on a very difficult path, mainly due to the US’ behavior.”

Regarding China’s role, he said Iran appreciates any country, especially China, which in the past tried to restore relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
They are partners in establishing relations between countries, and China has good intentions. Therefore, any action taken by them to help diplomacy will be welcomed by the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
