Claim of a Naval Blockade of Iran

Tehran’s Message from Hormuz: Equal Security or Shared Costs

NOURNEWS – The Islamic Republic of Iran’s emphasis on “security for all or for no one” in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman constitutes a strategic response to US policies of sanctions, warfare, and restrictions on maritime transit. This approach is framed not as a threat, but as a legitimate effort to safeguard sovereignty and prevent regional destabilization.

What stands out in Iran’s official positions—particularly in the statement issued by the Central Headquarters of Khatam al-Anbiya—is the emphasis on sovereign rights in territorial and adjacent waters. Under recognized international norms, every state is entitled to ensure the security of its vital routes. From this perspective, control and oversight of the Strait of Hormuz are not exceptional measures, but part of the natural responsibilities of any government toward its national security.

Relying on this principle, Iran has demonstrated that it will not remain passive in the face of threats to its vital interests. This stance gains particular significance amid mounting external pressure.

Naval Blockade: An Unlawful and Destabilizing Policy

From Tehran’s perspective, US regional policies—especially efforts to restrict maritime transit—constitute a clear violation of international law. Such measures not only call into question the principle of freedom of navigation, but also directly threaten global trade security.

Contrary to Washington’s claims of ensuring security, its military presence and continued interventions have, in practice, contributed to heightened tensions and instability. Recent years have shown that wherever external intervention has intensified, so too has the level of disorder. In contrast, Iran seeks to rely on indigenous capacities to support the emergence of a fair and balanced regional security order.

Collective Security: A Strategy Against Unilateralism

The notion of “security for all or for no one” must be understood as a response to unilateralism. It conveys a clear message to both regional and extra-regional actors: security cannot be selective.

By advancing this concept, Iran is effectively calling for equal security for all regional states and rejecting any attempt by a power to endanger others’ security through coercion. This perspective stands in direct contrast to policies aimed at creating strategic advantage through the imposition of restrictions on certain countries.

Implications: From Rebalancing Power to Sustainable Stability

Iran’s firm stance could contribute to a recalibration of the balance of power in the Persian Gulf. The message—that insecurity for one state will translate into insecurity for all—serves as a deterrent against escalatory actions.

At the same time, this approach may open the door to new regional security dialogues based on mutual respect and non-interference. If strengthened, such a path could lay the groundwork for lasting stability.

Ultimately, what the Islamic Republic of Iran seeks is not to restrict global trade, but to prevent economic and maritime tools from being weaponized as instruments of political pressure—a goal that, if realized, would benefit the entire region and even the global economy.
