Iran urges UK to show int'l obligation by explicitly condemning US-Israeli aggression

Iran’s ambassador in the United Kingdom, Ali Mousavi has criticized London's silence in the face of the US-Israeli military aggression against the Islamic Republic, urging the British government to take its stance in line with international law and explicitly condemn the illegal attacks.

Mousavi raised the issue, including the UK's approach to the US-Israeli military actions against Iran, during a meeting with British Deputy Foreign Secretary Hamish Falconer on Monday.

Referring to granting permission for US military to use the British base in the Indian Ocean and certain actions by the UK's armed forces under the pretext of defensive operations, the Iranian envoy emphasized that the Islamic Republic reserves the right to respond to aggressors.

Mousavi stated that the global and Iranian public opinion expects the UK, in line with its claim as a 'civilized nation' to take a position consistent with international law and condemn the US-Israeli aggression, and their blatant violation of humanitarian law, particularly by killing Iranian children and civilians.

During the meeting, a range of bilateral issues were also discussed and exchanged, including the arrest of two Iranian nationals in the UK under the national security law.

Mousavi rejected the claims made about the connection of these individuals to the Iranian government, but emphasized the need for the full respect of the rights of the detained Iranian citizens.

He also called for consular access to be provided for these individuals and emphasized that Iran is committed to its international obligations regarding non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and expects the same from others.
