"Yesterday's UNSC resolution on Iran is ultra virus and utterly unlawful, nothing can override a nation's inherent right to self-defense," Baqaei wrote in a message posted on his X account on Thursday night, in reaction to anti-Iran resolution proposed by Bahrain and presented on behalf of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.
Calling the resolution a distortion of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law, he said the move "signals a profound deterioration of the UNSC system as a result of the #UnitedStates' instrumentalization of the Council for its unlawful interest & malign whims."
Baqaei regretted over the UNSC stance with regard to the aggressive behavior of the US and Israeli regime, saying "the Council should have unequivocally and firmly condemned the American/Israeli aggression against Iran!"
Taking aim at the one-sided resolution, he said its "sponsors deliberately ignored the obvious fact that Iran is defending itself against an unprovoked aggression by the two bullying regimes- one of which is a permanent member of the same very Council."
The spokesperson also justified Iran's response to the aggressors in the places where they have taken refuge, arguing that "the ongoing aggression against Iran could not be conducted without the use of American military bases and assets stationed in the territories of countries in the #Persian Gulf."
Iran has already clarified that it has no animosity with its neighbors and remains committed to the policy of friendship and good-neighborliness, and that Iran's drone and missile strikes are only aimed at US bases, facilities and assets located in the region and are being used to target Iran.
The US and the Israeli regime launched joint military aggression against Iran on February 28 some eight months after they attacked the country in June last year. Both attacks came as Tehran was in the midst of diplomatic talks with Washington over its peaceful nuclear program.
In response, Iran carried out targeted, proportionate self-defense strikes against Israeli positions and US regional bases, warning that further aggression will face a harsher response.
