The attack targeted the “Shajareh Tayyebeh” Girls’ Elementary School during morning hours on Saturday, when students were present in class. According to Mohammad Rademher, special governor of Minab, rescue and debris-removal operations are ongoing, and the casualty toll may rise as identification efforts continue.
Earlier, the political, security and social deputy of Hormozgan Province had stated that approximately 170 students were enrolled in the morning shift at the school, raising concerns about further casualties.
Officials have emphasized that despite the scale of the tragedy, the situation in Minab remains under control and calm has been maintained across the city.
Funeral ceremony to be held Tuesday
The headquarters for the burial ceremony of the martyred students announced that funeral processions will be held on Tuesday morning, beginning at 8:00 a.m. from Shohada Square in Minab. The procession will proceed along Imam Khomeini Boulevard, Basij Boulevard and Coastal Boulevard before concluding at the city’s martyrs’ cemetery.
In a statement issued by the organizing committee, the Iranian nation was called upon to honor the memory of the “innocent blossoms” who lost their lives in what was described as a savage and criminal act carried out by the United States and the Zionist regime.
57 student martyrs identified
The Minab Governor’s Office has so far released the names of 57 student martyrs. Authorities stated that the remaining names will be announced upon formal confirmation and completion of identification procedures.
Medical and forensic teams have been mobilized to expedite identification and assist grieving families. According to local judicial officials, some members of the educational staff and students’ parents were also among the martyrs.
Nationwide condemnation
Senior officials across the Islamic Republic strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a war crime and a crime against humanity.
President Masoud Pezeshkian extended condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Minab, stating that the targeting of a school constitutes an assault on the future of the nation. He called for all emergency and medical services to prioritize treatment of the injured and support for affected families.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the strike represented a clear act of aggression and urged the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities under the UN Charter.
Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei stated that the crime would never be erased from the historical memory of the Iranian nation, while First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref described the attack as a flagrant violation of international law and assured that a firm and proportionate response would be delivered.
Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi also declared that the destruction of the school and the killing of children would not go unanswered.
The governor of Hormozgan Province confirmed that dozens of injured individuals have been transferred to medical centers and that emergency operations continue in coordination with the Iranian Red Crescent Society.
Cultural figures react
Prominent figures from Iran’s cultural and cinematic community also reacted to the tragedy. Film director Reza Mirkarimi expressed grief over the loss of the children, while organizers of the International Children’s Film Festival called on artists not to remain silent in the face of what they described as a humanitarian catastrophe.
Spanish Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem shared footage related to the incident on social media, drawing international attention to the attack.
Rescue efforts continue
Spokesman for the Iranian Red Crescent Society Mojtaba Khaledi said emergency response centers were placed on full alert immediately after the attack. Search-and-rescue teams, debris-removal units and medical responders remain at the scene working to recover victims and assist survivors.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid gathering near damaged sites to allow relief operations to proceed without obstruction.
