Araghchi holds key meetings in Geneva ahead of indirect Talks with US

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held high-level consultations in Geneva on Monday, meeting with his Omani counterpart and the head of the UN nuclear watchdog, as he prepares for a second round of indirect negotiations with the United States.

Araghchi met with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi on Monday afternoon to finalize coordination before the official start of indirect talks scheduled for Tuesday.

During the meeting, Araghchi outlined Iran's stances and observations regarding nuclear issues and the lifting of economic sanctions.

The Iranian top diplomat praised the "good offices" of Oman and Minister Albusaidi personally for their ongoing mediation.

Araghchi emphasized Iran's determination to pursue "result-oriented diplomacy" to secure the legitimate rights of the Iranian people and maintain regional stability.

Albusaidi, in turn, commended Iran’s steadfastness in the diplomatic path and expressed hope for the success of the upcoming round of talks, which are set to take place at the Embassy of Oman in Geneva.

Consultations with the

Earlier on Monday, Araghchi met with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency ().

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the two officials discussed technical issues related to safeguards cooperation and the implementation of the Iranian Parliament’s law regarding the nuclear program.

The discussions also touched upon technical viewpoints relevant to the indirect negotiations with Washington.

Iran and the US resumed indirect diplomacy in Muscat on February 6, nearly eight months after a suspension following US-Israeli military strikes on Iran in June 2025.

Iran’s primary demand remains the effective and verifiable lifting of economic sanctions, with officials stating that any deal without tangible economic benefits is meaningless.

The negotiations are taking place against a backdrop of US military escalation.

President Donald Trump has recently deployed an additional aircraft carrier, fighter aircraft, and guided-missile destroyers to the region.

The indirect talks are scheduled to begin Tuesday morning under Omani mediation.
