Iran claimed a leading position at the opening stage of the 2026 Karate World League, marking the country's first major success of the new year.

The first leg of the 2026 Karate World League, which began on Friday in Georgia with the participation of 1,257 athletes from 77 countries, concluded on Sunday night with the top individuals and teams being determined.

Iranian men’s and women’s teams both took to the tatami in the high-profile event, aiming to improve their world rankings.

Iranian representatives, who delivered strong performances from the opening day, ultimately secured six gold medals and two bronze medals to win the overall title at the World League Series A in Tbilisi.

The result extended Iran’s recent run of success in international karate into the first event of 2026.

Japan finished second with two gold medals and one bronze, while Egypt claimed third place after winning two gold medals.
