Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization unveils three major nuclear achievements

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) says it has registered three new nuclear achievements, including the launch of the country’s first fully indigenous industrial accelerator, the start of advanced production of Carbon-13, and the reactivation of a cyclotron for radiopharmaceutical production.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesperson for the AEOI, made the announcement on Tuesday after attending a session of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament, where he briefed lawmakers on the organization’s latest activities.

“Just yesterday, three fundamental advances were recorded by the organization. For the first time, an industrial accelerator has been launched in the country, with diverse applications in environmental protection, medicine, nuclear technology, and scientific research,” he told reporters after the meeting.

He said the accelerator is entirely homegrown, designed and built by Iranian specialists over a period of four years, and officially entered operation this week.

The spokesperson also hailed the launch of advanced Carbon-13 production, carried out through the installation of a 12-meter tower at a semi-industrial scale. The isotope has wide-ranging uses in medicine, nuclear science, radiopharmaceuticals, various industries, and environmental studies.

In addition, Kamalvandi announced the successful reactivation of a cyclotron that had been inactive for nearly two years, as sanctions had impeded the imports of necessary components.

“Despite the unavailability of equipment and components, our domestic experts managed to produce all the necessary parts. Fortunately, the cyclotron resumed operations yesterday and will contribute to radiopharmaceutical production,” he said.
