According to Al Mayadeen, Gil said in an official statement addressed to the Islamic Republic of Iran on Tuesday night that Caracas appreciates Tehran’s consistent support against “aggressive and illegal actions by the United States.”
Speaking on behalf of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, Gil conveyed his “warm greetings” to Iran, saying Caracas “deeply values Iran's commitment to the stability of international trade.”
The Venezuelan foreign minister added that international trade stability is currently under threat due to US actions.
Gil also thanked Iran for calling on all countries to firmly oppose any threat or use of force that runs counter to the United Nations Charter.
Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Ministry had condemned recent US military moves against Venezuela, describing them as a threat to security and stability in the Caribbean and Latin America.
Iran has also urged the UN Security Council and the UN secretary-general to urgently address the dangerous situation stemming from the US insistence on unlawful interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs, noting that Venezuela is a sovereign state and a member of the United Nations.
