Lawmaker rejects IAEA’s anti-Iran resolution, stresses nuclear rights

Head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament Ebrahim Azizi says that Iran will not retreat from its legal rights to pursue its peaceful nuclear program despite increased pressure and biased resolutions from Western powers.

In response to the recent resolution passed by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) against Iran, Azizi criticized the lack of independence of the IAEA and Western governments.

The IAEA’s resolution calls on Iran to provide an updated report on its enriched uranium reserves and on the status of the nuclear sites that were attacked by the Israeli regime and the US in June.

Azizi highlighted that this resolution ignores the Israeli and American attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities and the assassination of its scientists, asserting that Iran's nuclear activities are peaceful and compliant with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

He emphasized that Iran’s strategic interests guide its decisions, which are not temporary but rooted in established policies regarding its nuclear program. Azizi pointed out that the European countries merely act under U.S. influence, lacking political independence, and their actions are predictable.

The official went on to reiterated that Iran’s nuclear activities have always been peaceful and under IAEA supervision.

Despite cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog, Iran has faced aggression from the Israeli regime and the US, he added.

Azizi affirmed that Tehran will continue its peaceful nuclear program, focusing on areas such as energy and medicine, and will not back down from its rights in light of directed resolutions.

He also said that the Iranian Parliament is preparing proposals regarding the Islamic Republic’s potential withdrawal from the NPT.
