Russia: Anti-Iran resolution by IAEA BoG is a serious blow to credibility of agency

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that Russia considers the anti-Iranian and provocative resolution of the International Atomic Energy Agency, proposed by the Western camp, a serious blow to international confidence in the IAEA safeguards and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Reacting to the vote of the IAEA Board of Governors on the draft resolution on the NPT Safeguards Agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran, Zakharova said that there was no need for emergency action by the IAEA Board of Governors regarding verification activities in Iran.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson pointed out that the IAEA Secretariat had not requested any instructions from the IAEA Board of Governors.

She said that Russia recognizes Iran's continued adherence to its obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency, despite the US and Israeli attacks on its nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards in June.

Zakharova recalled that Iran's adherence to its commitments occurred despite the unacceptable actions taken by Western countries in August and September aimed at illegally reviving UN Security Council sanctions resolutions against Iran that had been lifted under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
