Ambassador to Russia calls SCO states key allies in Iran’s Look East policy

Iran's Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali has underscored the significance of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as a key ally in Iran's “Look East” foreign policy.

Highlighting the significance of the 24th SCO Heads of Government (Prime Ministers) Summit in Moscow, Jalali wrote in a post on his X account on Tuesday that the SCO member states are friends of Iran. He also emphasized the organization's role in fostering political and economic relations.

The Moscow summit is the second major high-level meeting of the SCO this year, following the leaders' summit in China, Jalali pointed out, adding that while the previous summit focused on political and international issues, the current gathering prioritizes economic cooperation.

Numerous documents aimed at enhancing collaboration in this area are being finalized by national coordinators from member countries, he noted.

Iran's First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref is participating in the summit, which includes key speeches and bilateral meetings with senior officials from other member states.

Jalali reiterated that the SCO provides a platform for strengthening regional ties and multilateral interactions, saying that the organization has consistently increased its influence and role in regional and global affairs over the past two decades.

The summit commenced on November 17, with Aref and other officials welcomed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
