Political and Security Messages of Iraq’s Election Results

The results of Iraq’s parliamentary elections marked a clear victory for the factions loyal to the Axis of Resistance and a crushing defeat for secular groups and remnants of Baathist thought. The high voter turnout and the new parliamentary alignment reflect the political maturity of Iraqi society and the consolidation of its path toward independence and resistance against foreign influence.

Nournews: Iraq’s recent elections, with more than 12 million voters out of 21.4 million eligible citizens, represent a major step in consolidating democracy after years of political turmoil. The 12.5% increase in voter participation compared to the previous term indicates a renewed public trust in the ballot box and, more importantly, an acknowledgment that genuine reform must come from within Iraq’s own national structure—not from external sources.

This widespread participation was a decisive response to the pro-Western and secular movements that, in recent years, sought to diminish the role of the Resistance Axis and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) through slogans such as “A Weapon-Free Iraq” and “A Secular State.”

The Rise of the Resistance Bloc: Washington’s Strategy Defeated

According to preliminary results, the Reconstruction and Development Alliance led by Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani came in first with about 50 seats, while Nouri al-Maliki’s State of Law Coalition secured second place. Meanwhile, the Al-Sadiqoun List affiliated with Qais al-Khazali, campaigning on anti-corruption and support for the PMF, emerged as one of the main phenomena of this election.

With more than 185 parliamentary seats won by Shia factions supportive of the Resistance, the U.S. strategy of containing the Axis of Resistance from within Iraq’s political system has effectively failed. This new parliamentary composition both paves the way for forming the next government under the Shia Coordination Framework and prevents Washington from advancing its plans to weaken Iraq’s popular defense forces.

Political Message: Consolidation of Independence and Security

The surge in votes for groups such as Badr, Huqooq, State of Law, and Al-Sadiqoun demonstrates Iraqis’ deep awareness of the link between national security and national resistance. The collective memory of the fight against ISIS has reinforced Iraq’s trust in the effectiveness of the resistance forces, making support for these factions a vote for continued independence and national dignity.

As a result, the future political structure in Baghdad will be shaped not by foreign preferences but by the popular will for lasting security and sovereign governance—a course that effectively sidelines any attempt to revive Baathist agendas or promote political secularism.

A New Iraq: The Axis of Regional Stability

The recent developments in Iraq are not merely the outcome of a domestic election but part of a broader regional realignment in which the Axis of Resistance—from Lebanon to Yemen—continues to expand both its soft and hard power within legitimate state frameworks.

The victory of resistance-oriented movements shifts the balance of power in Baghdad in favor of regional stability and reduces Washington’s influence. Iraq is no longer a battlefield for competing foreign blocs but rather a connecting hub among the nations of resistance across West Asia. The path ahead for Iraq’s next government—particularly in foreign policy—will likely center on strengthening strategic ties with Iran and other countries aligned with the Axis of Resistance.
