Iran’s environment chief travels to Brazil for UN climate change conference

Shina Ansari, Iran’s Vice President and Head of the Department of Environment, has traveled to Brazil to participate in the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference, known as COP30.

The Iranian official departed on Wednesday to attend the conference taking place in the city of Belém from November 10 to 21, according to a press release by the Department of Environment.

UN Climate Change Conferences (or COPs) take place annually, and are the world’s only multilateral decision-making forum on climate change that brings together almost every country on Earth, according to the UN.

The events focus on various topics related to two main themes: adaptation to climate change, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Climate finance for developing countries, renewable energy technologies, and low-carbon solutions are among other topics discussed at the conferences.

The presence of Iran’s delegation is of particular importance, as it can also create opportunities for bilateral and multilateral cooperation with other countries on technology transfer and climate change combat.
