Iranian Bayati takes best actress award at Indian festival

Iranian film star Nazanin Bayati, for her performance in the film ‘It Was Winter,’ clinched the award for Best Actress at the Indian Movie Awards held in New Delhi on Wednesday. The same film also walked away with the top honour for Best Foreign-Language Feature.

Directed by Vahid Parshad and produced by Kambiz Babaei and Bahman Kamyar, ‘It Was Winter’ marks Parshad’s debut feature and features Bayati alongside Elham Korda, Mohammad Amin, and veteran actor Reza Kianiān in a cameo role.

Earlier, on October 7 in Athens, Greece, the film secured the Best Feature Film prize at the Athens International Monthly Art Film Festival, adding to the project’s growing international recognition.

Bayati, who made her cinematic debut in Trapped (2013) and has earned critical praise at home in Iran, described her role in ‘It Was Winter’ as “a mirror to the season of the soul”. Her win in India reflects the production’s successful run across global festivals.

With international distribution handled by KBN Company, the film is expected to reach markets well beyond its domestic release.
