According to the Foreign Ministry, following the interfering and baseless claims made in the joint statement by the foreign ministers of PGCC and the EU — including support for the UAE’s unfounded territorial claims over Iran’s Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa islands, as well as comments on Iran’s defense and nuclear programs — Majid Takht Ravanchi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, summoned the European envoys and conveyed Iran’s strong protest.
Takht Ravanchi reaffirmed Iran’s absolute and perpetual sovereignty over the Iranian islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa as an inseparable part of Iran’s territory, and condemned the EU’s support for baseless claims by a PGCC member state as a violation of the principles of respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He also rejected the EU’s comments on Iran’s missile program, calling them a blatant interference in Iran’s internal affairs. Emphasizing that Iran’s indigenous defense capabilities, including its missile power, are part of its inherent right to self-defense.Takht Ravanchi stressed that these capabilities are a source of regional stability and security.
Criticizing the non-compliance, inefficiency, and bad faith of the three European parties to the JCPOA (France, Germany, and the UK), the senior Iranian diplomat noted that the EU — as the coordinator of the JCPOA Joint Commission — alongside the three European states, not only failed to fulfill their commitments but also abused the dispute resolution mechanism, leading to diplomatic obstruction and deadlock.
He concluded that the EU should answer for its destructive conduct rather than repeating baseless and politically motivated allegations about Iran’s nuclear program.
On Tuesday, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei dismissed the interventionist and unfounded claims raised in the joint statement of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) and the European Union, including the repetition of the United Arab Emirates’ baseless claim regarding the Iranian islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa, as well as interference in Iran’s defensive and nuclear issues.
Baghaei warned against the divisive and destructive meddling of certain European countries in the Persian Gulf region’s affairs, emphasizing Iran’s absolute and perpetual sovereignty over the three islands as an inseparable part of its territorial integrity.
Repetition of baseless claims in political statements has no legal value and does not alter geographical or historical realities, he emphasized.
